Breshad Perriman was back on the practice field for the Baltimore Ravens almost 2 months after he sustained what was considered to be a minor injury. The Baltimore Sun’s Tony Meoli reported today that Perriman worked out with receivers Coach Bobby Engram before joining the remainder of the receivers during drills. There was no word at the time of whether or not Perriman was involved in 7 on 7 or 11 on 11 team drills.
Going into the game with the Cincinnati Bengals, the boost that Perriman would give the Ravens offense would be psychological as well as the speed and skill he brings. Though there were no reports yet as to whether he would suit up for this weekend’s game, with missing so much time, Perriman has a lot of work to catch up on before being prepared to get onto the playing field. However, just having Perriman on the field would give the Ravens offense some much needed ability to get separation down the field, opening up the underneath routes for Steve Smith, Sr and Michael Campanaro.
Ravens coaches, players and fans alike have to be thrilled by this turn of events. Where the Ravens offense produced well during the Raiders game, adding this additional piece would give the Ravens another valuable skill player to turn to as players like Crocket Gilmore and Lorenzo Taliaferro start to make their mark on the offense.
It will be interesting to see if Perriman suits up the weekend, how much playing time he will get, what routes he will be running and just how much he has advanced taking mental reps while his body was healing. This could very well give the Ravens the long sought after boost they have needed since Terrell Suggs went down with his Achilles injury giving the team hope that they can break out of this early season funk.
